GENRE:
The genre of the Hunger Games trilogy is Science Fiction. The definition of Science Fiction is known as literature of change. It is when a culture changes or is different because of scientific advances and technological developements. I know it is Science Fiction because it is made up, takes place in the future, and has advanced technology.
I know the story occurs in the future because it happens in Panem. Panem is located where North America is now. It also has advanced technology. They have money things such as hover crafts, electric shocks that dry your hair, arenas where the evnvironment is controlled by people in an electronic room, and many other things.
The genre affects the books setting and everything about the book pretty much. If the author used another genre then it would probably not be the same story. They wouldn't be able to force death in arenas because they wouldn't have the advanced technology of the future. They way the people lived would be different which could effect their personalities, especially the materialist people in the Capitol. If the people in the Capitol didn't have all the advanced technology and lived like the rest of the citizens as workers they might not support the Hunger Games.
